 My name is Maryam Ahmed. Coming into the program I was nervous at first due to not feeling confident in school subjects. I’ve been through a lot in my few years of going to school, enduring unprofessionalism with teachers; Who are supposed to teach and help kids fully inner-stand the materials and subjects given to them. I was neglected by my teachers in those aspects. During my experience with Derry it’s been amazing. My first session with Derry was not how I expected it to go. He didn’t teach me like previous teachers have. He allows me to lead lessons and assist me when needed, and also gives me multiple ways of solving and inner-standing the materials given. The confidence and inner-standing he instilled in you while being in his space, I feel is what every person seeking knowledge needs. I’ve been able to learn a lot of things to improve the way I receive and take in information. I have also gained a lot of confidence not only just in school but in my everyday life. Ladies and Gentlemen,

I met Maryam not terribly long ago after her older sister - a former student in my adult math class - shared her concerns regarding her little sister’s abilities. Maryam, who had just completed the 7th grade reported having difficulties in school. During the initial assessment, I noticed that she was unable to finish the first question though we were halfway through that first session. Together we agreed, reading was the problem. Well three weeks later she and one of my favorite books, Frozen, disappeared, never to be seen again. She is doing excellently, mark you, reading to her little nieces and nephews. Her letter above was my last correspondence with her, as we were then looking for help with affording her tutoring bill. I sought and had since gotten permission from mom, Mary, to post Maryam’s letter on my website as a testimonial.
